September 08, 2007 – Robert Morrissey Photographer & Inventor

What is so great about that is it made me internally look at the image and how strong is the image to the human psyche and our decision-making? I think what is an amazing thing to find out is that every single person that uses their eyes to visually touch the world or see the world every single thing in that portion of their visual their sightline has been made by an artist or is created by an artist. It’s like we’re looking here. We’ve got monitors and we’ve got microphones and things like that. These have all been designed by artists and the impact that that has on the social and economic ideas of the human being is a mess.

Erin: So, obviously you’re a qualified guy-you’re so knowledgeable about this stuff. What I’m curious about-as entrepreneurs, we want to know you could have probably gone and worked for a cajillion advertising firms. I don’t know exactly who photographers work for, talent agencies whatever. But instead you chose your own path. Why?

Rob M: I did that because-the truth is you can’t control your income and you can’t make enormous amounts of money working for other people. Some people can.

Rob: You’re right. You were just saying that you could make money working for other people. There are very few people who make money working for anybody else.

Rob M: Oh yeah. What is it? The acronym for job is Just Under Broke or Just Over Broke. Yeah, job. The thing is, as an entrepreneur you have the great ability of having your own schedule. You can work where you want to or you don’t work. You can take a few months off. To get to your question, I actually did freelance a lot with big companies.

Rob: This is Rob with Startup Story Radio. We’re in studio with Robert Morrissey, talking about how imagery is important to you entrepreneurs out there. Can you stay with us over the break? See you on the other side.

[BREAK]

Rob: We’re back from the break and I’m Rob and this is Startup Story Radio. In studio we have Erin Weed of Girls Fight Back and our guest this week is Robert Morrissey of Morrissey Photo. We were talking before the break. By the way, if you want to call in, the lines are wide open. So, give us a call at 303-713-7600.

Rob, before the break we were talking about your newest venture, which is BioMediGraph, which is a new way to image bodies. It has a lot of applications that overlap between the health industry and the medical industry. I was looking at your site and you got a guy with a farmer tan and we were just chatting off the air and I’m like, “Why isn’t there a supermodel in there?” This is advertising. You were talking before the break how important imagery is and having beautiful shots and all this, and you have a guy with a farmer tan on the website.

Erin: He’s fine.

Rob M: He is fine. The thing is-where’s the bimbo? The thing is-if you go to biomedigraph.com actually, you can see really good imagery for specific purpose. This is designed to help all people. If we use people that look real, then we’ll actually communicate to real people. If I was going to put somebody up there from Sunset Tan or whatever those shows are; nobody is going to believe that this is something that is designed to help them.

Erin: Yeah, and if I’m a CEO of a hospital…

Rob M: Right, right.

Erin: That’s not going to sell it for me to have some hottie on your brochure.
