Ryan Gaunt’s Bio
Ryan grew up working for his family’s crane rental and steel fabricating shop in the town of Concord which is in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. During Ryan’s early years at Gaunt Machine and Iron Works, he learned from his grandfather and father how to run and operate a small business. After high school, Ryan enlisted in the US Army Reserve as a crane operator for the US Army Corp of Engineers. He served for six years and earned his honorable discharge in 2002.
While serving in the reserves, Ryan earned his Associate in Arts and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from California State University of Sacramento, graduating with honors. He is a member of Pi Sigma Alpha which is the National Political Science Honors Society. During Ryan’s college career he was an award winning speaker and debater, and was elected to student government holding two positions, one as Director of Legislation and the other as Vice President.
Four years ago, Ryan was recruited to work in Iraq as a contractor, where he worked for two years serving the transportation mission as foreman leading crews of up to 50 men who ran different kinds of lift equipment such as cranes and forklifts. Ryan has a distinguished war record, being awarded several certificates of appreciation, coins and letters from the US Army for his hard work, commitment to mission, willingness to take on any challenge and getting projects done. As a testimony to his leadership and work ethic, he was chosen to lead a crew who led the way for the Baghdad “Surge” in 2007, by being in charge of the crew that unloaded the 4th Infantry helping to establish a new base outside of Baghdad.
Ryan currently serves as the Outreach Director for the Libertarian Party of Colorado.
