Chris Shapard’s Bio

Chris ShapardIn January 1999, Chris Shapard was appointed as Deputy Director to the Colorado International Trade Office to focus on international inward investment. In that capacity, she promoted Colorado for foreign investment and helped to organize overseas trade missions and trade shows. She successfully helped arrange Governor Owens’ trade missions to England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Japan, Mexico and Germany.

In 2004, Chris became the Director of Biosciences and Emerging Technologies, a business development position focusing on the biotech, medical device, nanotechnology and photonics sectors. Her biotechnology involvement has included helping to draft and implement the statewide biotechnology plan, leading the Colorado delegation at BIO, leading the BioWest 2005 effort and helping to conceptualize the Bioscience Colorado magazine. Other responsibilities include producing the Colorado bioscience and emerging technology e-newsletter, helping to organize the Colorado Nanotech group, assisting the Colorado Photonics Industry Association to advance the organization, helping to draft legislation to support Colorado’s emerging industries.

Chris graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Political Science from Grove City College in Western Pennsylvania and during her junior year spent a semester of study in Madrid, Spain. In early 2002 she received the Certificate in International Trade from the World Trade Center Denver and Metro State College.

Chris lives with her husband Evander in Denver.

Kenton KuhnKenton Kuhn is an online pioneer who started his first online service in 1986 – well before the advent of the commercial internet.

In 2002, Kenton met Georgia Imhoff, a well known Denver philanthropist. Together they started the Blacktie concept. Now Blacktie is active in 10 American cities and works with nonprofit organizations, individual philanthropists and preferred businesses.

Kenton lives in Denver with his wife Nancy and two rescue Shelties.

Tom Frey’s Bio

As the Executive Director and Senior Futurist at the DaVinci Institute, he works closely with his Board of Visionaries to develop original research studies, which enables him to speak on unusual topics, translating trends into unique opportunities.

As part of the celebrity speaking circuit, Tom continually pushes the envelope of understanding, creating fascinating images of the world to come. His keynote talks on futurist topics have captivated people ranging from high level government officials to executives in Fortune 500 companies including NASA, IBM, AT&T, Hewlett-Packard, Lucent Technologies, First Data, Boeing, Capital One, Bell Canada, Visa, Ford Motor Company, Qwest, Allied Signal, Hunter Douglas, Direct TV, International Council of Shopping Centers, National Association of Federal Credit Unions, and many more.

Because of his work inspiring inventors and other revolutionary thinkers, the Boulder Daily Camera has referred to him as the “Father of Invention”. The Denver Post and Seattle Post Intelligence have referred to him as the “Dean of Futurists”.

Before launching the DaVinci Institute, Tom spent 15 years at IBM as an engineer and designer where he received over 270 awards, more than any other IBM engineer. He is also a past member of the Triple Nine Society (High I.Q. society over 99.9 percentile).

Tom has been a columnist for the Denver Post, Rocky Mountain News, and Boulder County Business Report, and is the author of the 1998 book “Inventions of Impact”. He currently writes a newsletter entitled “News from the Future” and has written numerous articles on a wide range of futurist topics. He has also been a contributing writer for The Futurist Magazine and is the Editor of the Impact Lab, an online emerging technology blog which was recently rated by Popular Science Magazine as one of the “top five science blogs in the known universe”.
