Libertarian Candidate for CD6 Opposes Job Killing Restrictions in House Bill

Colorada Medican MarijuanaRob McNealy, candidate for Colorado’s 6th Congressional District, expressed his opposition today to HB 1284 and Senator Chris Romer’s (D-Denver)
attempt to put a majority of medical marijuana dispensaries out of business.

“It should never be the state or federal government’s job to decide which law-abiding companies or industries should be in – or out of – business. Colorado voters have approved the use of medical marijuana in our state-it’s in our constitution, and no legislator in Denver or Washington DC should ignore the will of the people of Colorado because something isn’t to his liking.”

“HB 1284 is just another example of government meddling in another area of people’s lives where it really doesn’t belong. It’s very arrogant of Senator Romer to believe he knows what’s best for Coloradoans when it comes to their health and medical treatments. This is just one reason why I’m running for Congress – almost all Democrats and Republicans have limited people’s freedoms and choices about how they live their lives.”

“Right now, our economy needs government to get out of the way so small businesses can rebuild our economy. Senator Romer is trying to enact legislation which will put more people out of work, and that is irresponsible.” McNealy remarked: “I also condemn the individual who left a death threat on Senator Romer’s voicemail. I believe that you can disagree with someone in a reasonable manner, and should never threaten someone’s life over a political disagreement.”

Rob McNealy Interview with Steve Freedom (from FreedomsPhoenix.com)

April 30th, 2010

Rob McNealy

When I moved up to Colorado I was not impressed with the political candidates from the Republican party. It was the same old war mongering, imperialist ideology, and disdain for civil liberties.  I was involved in the Republican party trying to change it from the inside, was elected as precinct committeeman and tried diligently to get the old Republican guard to change. I have now learned that it is equivalent to asking a zebra to alter it’s stripes. The straw that broke the camels back for me was my conversation with a Republican District Captain who told me without hesitation he would vote for Chairman Mao if he were running as a Republican. These party hacks have no principles and only care about if the candidate has  R after their name. I cannot support or participate in such lunacy. I will only come back in the Republican party to assist in getting RP elected. I am being true to my beliefs and joining the Libertarian party and will now work hard to support their candidates.

That is where this interview comes in, Rob McNealy is running for Colorado’s 6th congressional district against a complete neo-con who voted for the patriot act and the hate crimes bill. I was very impressed with Mr. McNealy’s demeanor and candor. After looking over the numbers, he actually has a chance of winning in this 3 way race.

Questions and answers:

1. Why are you running as a libertarian candidate in a heavily Republican district in Colorado?

If there was a constitutional conservative holding this seat, I wouldn’t be running for this race.

2. What is your opinion on the patriot act?

It is unconstitutional and those congressman that voted for it should be charged with treason.

3. What is your opinion on the war on drugs?

We need to end the war on drugs to remove the violence from it and defund terrorism.  We have also lost many constitutional rights from supporting legislation and supreme court rulings, particularly regarding RICO, asset forfeiture, probable cause and dynamic entries.

4. What do you think the founding fathers would say about how our nation has evolved and what do you think they would be most proud of and angered about?

I think the Founding Fathers would be planning another revolution if they were alive today. We have strayed so far from our founding principles, I believe the present day United States would be unrecognizable to the Founding Fathers.

5. What is the role of the Federal government?

Defend our borders, regulate commerce between the States, and regulate immigration.

6. How do you feel about States rights?

The states at one time were more powerful than the Federal government and we should return to a system where the States have the power, and the Federal government was as exciting as a city council meeting.

7. Is there any current politician who holds office that you respect and would want to emulate?

Ron Paul is the best we have in the U.S. House.  Next January, I hope to work with him to restore liberty.

8. How do you feel about Arizona’s new immigration legislation?

I support the intent and spirit of the law; the Federal government has abdicated it’s constitutional responsibility.  However,  two wrongs don’t make a right and this law also violates the Constitution.  The police already have a lot of power and giving them more won’t solve the immigration problem.  The best way to deal with immigration is to not allow foreign nationals to get on the entitlement rolls in the first place.  If you control the free rider problem with entitlements, enforce the border, and move to a Fair Tax system, the illegal immigration problem will go away.

9. There has never before been a Libertarian elected to the U.S Congress, do you think you have a reasonable chance of winning?

It’s a sign of the times.  As people become more and more economically uncomfortable, people are questioning the old political paradigms. Many people in my district are very receptive to my platform and my message. We have raised more money than any other Libertarian in Colorado history, and that is just really starting to take off.

10. What is your view on the Real ID act?

It is unconstitutional and garbage legislation.

11. If elected, what is your first year goals?

Work with Ron  Paul to End the Fed,  move us to a sound currency, and build a national community defense network, much like our old Civil Defense network used to be.
