War On Drugs
“An acre of the best ground for hemp, is to be selected and sewn in hemp and be kept for a permanent hemp patch.” – Thomas Jefferson’s Garden book 1849
The War on Drugs or drug prohibition is a failure which has been very costly in terms of both money and freedom. Prohibition has not worked in over seventy years, just like alcohol prohibition failed. Portugal is the only country in the world to legalize drug use. Their violent crime rates have decreased, and due to education, their drug usage rates have also decreased.
I will support an end to drug prohibition.
- I support legalization of most drugs. This will save hundreds of billions of dollars each year in enforcement and incarceration.
- I support abolishment of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). This will save billions of dollars annually. I would turn any remaining duties of regulation back over to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
- I would support taxes on all new drug profits and hemp products just like alcohol and cigarettes are currently taxed.
- I would support using a portion of the taxes raised for drug education and rehabilitation.
